So Gordon Brown has arrived in Coldharbour - and brought torrential rain with him. It sort of says it all, really. From the number of phone calls I have had from local residents it seems the general view is one of surprise that the Labour candidate thinks this is going to help him win the election. We'll see. But one thing's for sure - if you need to call on one of the most unpopular Prime Ministers in living memory to come and endorse your campaign, it's pretty desperate.
Mr Brown was asking the officers about their work - they say evenings are the worst for anti-social behaviour and agree strongly that giving kids more to do would make a difference. Which begs the question why Labour's MP and local authority has done so little to provide those activities.

Gay people are demonic?
As an openly gay candidate - do you agree with the Tory candidate for Sutton and Cheam that you are possessed by a demon?
Is this the new face of the Conseervatives - or just the old one making itself clear?
Do you think she should resign?
Philippa Stroud
Philippa said earlier today:
“I make no apology for being a committed Christian. However, it is categorically untrue that I believe homosexuality to be an illness and I am deeply offended that The Observer has suggested otherwise. I have spent 20 years working with disturbed people who society have turned their back on and are not often supported by state agencies; drug addicts, alcoholics, the mentally ill and the homeless that I and my charitable friends in the public sector have tried to help over the years. The idea that I am prejudiced against gay people is both false and insulting.”
I think that makes her position entirely clear.
Clive Efford is finished,
Clive Efford is finished, this episode just shows how desperate he is! Did Gordon upset anyone today, how many residents got called Bigots?
PM in Eltham.
Oh Dear!
Has Eltham rained on Gordon's parade?
I do hope so.
Word I hear on the street is that Mr Efford would do better without Mr Brown's assistance, maybe those nice publicity photos Clive has in the window of his constituency office need editing.
Events will tell.
The problem with Phillipa's
The problem with Phillipa's statement is she does not denu the points in the piece.
She may not believe that homosexuality is an illness - as ofcourse it is not.
But she doesn not deny that she founded a church that tried to 'cure' homosexuals by driving out their 'demons.
Nor does she state that she will be suing the Observer and one can only wonder why.
It looks likethe nasty party is back again as shown by comments from a Tory councillor this morning who wanted the PM to "fall under" a car
The only nasty party is the
The only nasty party is the one that gave pensioners an additional 25 pence per week and cancelled the 10p tax rate for the lowest paid. As much as you'd probably prefer to sling labels about I'm afraid they don't stick to my party. The councillor in question has denied making that remark to the Prime Minister. I'd love to continue this dialogue but I have a lot of calls to return from residents who actually wish to talk how a new government would improve their lives after 13 years of class war and wasted opportunity.
